If you read only one book on psychopathy, let this be the one - no pseudo-objective condemnations from the outside here, but a honest first-person account. Hats off to Jessica Kelly for having both the strength and the self-awareness to tell her story!
This book provides an honest, straightforward account of what it is like to live with a personality disorder. Her tone throughout is one of frank honesty and dry wit, recalling anecdotes from her childhood to illustrate the foundation for her personality dysfunction, as well as a refreshing, new perspective on the world and how it works. Part memoir, part self-reflection, this book constitutes a rare insight into individuals who are so often associated with the likes of Bundy and Dexter, and I think many would be surprised to find a balanced, realistic, and even at times relatable narrative of the less-than-bloodsoaked, not-so-glamorous development and perspective of someone who is assessed psychopathic. The field of research is sorely lacking this type of perspective, so hopefully more books like this come onto the market, from reliable sources (not like that M.E. Thomas wanna-be nonsense).
